One person is dead, and 23 are injured after a New Jersey train crashed into a tree Monday morning, according to officials.
At around 6:04 a.m. ET on Monday, the River Line train traveling southbound from Trenton carrying 42 passengers struck a tree north of Roebling Station in Florence, New Jersey, around 30 miles northeast of Philadelphia, NJ Transit said in a news release provided to USA TODAY.
The train operator was killed and 23 passengers received non-life-threatening injuries. The remaining 19 passengers were accommodated by a bus.
Footage of the scene captured by CBS Philadelphia showed a broken tree trunk lodged underneath a Rive Line train with a smashed windshield.
The New Jersey Transit Police responded to the scene and were investigating the incident.
USA TODAY also reached out to the Mansfield Township Police Department, Fire Department and Ambulance Corps.
River Line suspended
The River Line service traveling north and south between Florence and Trenton was suspended following the crash, according to NJ Transit.
A bus service will be provided as a substitute.
