Free-agent right-handed pitcher Michael Lorenzen is in agreement with the Texas Rangers on a one-year, $4.5 million contract pending a physical, according to several reports early Thursday.
The Rangers are Lorenzen's fourth team since the Cincinnati Reds granted him free agency in November 2021. He made 18 starts for the Los Angeles Angels in 2022, and was an American League All-Star for the Detroit Tigers last season before they traded him to the Philadelphia Phillies at the deadline for minor-leaguer Hao-Yu Lee.
Lorenzen posted a 23-23 record and 4.07 ERA in 295 appearances for the Reds between 2015 and 2021. Only 26 of his appearances were starts. He was used exclusively as a starter for the Angels and Tigers, and made seven starts of his 11 appearances for the Phillies.
